Princeton Prize in Race Relations

Princeton Prize in Race Relations


Princeton University sponsors the Princeton Prize in Race Relations, an awards program for high school students in Chicago and 22 other cities who are doing exceptional work to advance the cause of race relations. The objective of the program is to support young people who are working hard to foster respect and understanding among people of different backgrounds.

First place honor for the Chicago winner is $1,000. In addition, award certificates will be given to projects that are worthy of honorable mention. Students in grades 9-12 in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are eligible to apply. Applicants must have been engaged in their volunteer project in the past 12 months and submit a completed entry form.

The application deadline is January 31, 2010. I have attached a binder that includes the application, brochure and poster. If you know potential applicants, please pass this information along to them. All winners will be notified in writing in early April 2010.

2009 Princeton Prize Award Recipient - Chicago

Elizabeth “Lisa” Doi, recipient of the Chicago 2009 Princeton Prize in Race Relations, was a senior at North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, IL. As a freshman, Lisa attended a Student Diversity Leadership Conference. Inspired by her experience, Lisa led a group of students in creating and implementing the first-ever Diversity Day at her high school. During Diversity Day, students participate in a variety of workshops centered on issues of diversity – including race. The theme for 2009 was "Exploring Pluralism through Storytelling." Students participated in workshops that allowed them to tell their stories through art, dance, music, and writing. The day concluded with student-facilitated peer discussions. Lisa has made Diversity Day an annual tradition at her school.

Scholarship Info for Black Male Seniors

Do you know any Black males who are seniors in high school who want to go to college out of state for "FREE" ? Several Black Colleges are looking for future black male teachers and will send them to universities/colleges for 4 years FREE.

The 'Call Me MISTER' program is an effort to address the critical shortage of African American male teachers particularly among South Carolina 's lowest performing public schools. Program participants are selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.

The program is a collaboration between Clemson University and four historically black colleges in South Carolina : Benedict College , Claflin University , Morris College and South Carolina State University .



The project provides:
Tuition for admitted students pursuing approved programs of study at participating colleges.
An academic support system to help assure their success. A cohort system for social and cultural support.
