Consistency

The word of the day is... Consistency

The word consistency is more and more making an appearance in my life. I'm finding myself getting upset not only with with people around me, including my husband but also with myself in my relationship with my kids, my business, and my marriage.
We all know that children are sponges and they are watching us. So we have to set positive examples for them. We can't expect big things from them if we're not providing a consistent example of what big things are.

I'm also realizing that I need to be more consistent in my business. This consistency determines how successful I am. I'm currently working on being more active with blogging and having more interaction with fans and supporters on social media. Becoming more proactive on my email listing, and creating more merchandise. This is all an effort in trying to achieve my goal of becoming more consistent, hence becoming more successful in my business.

I'm also making more of an effort to be consistent in
Isn't Marriage spelled wrong;-/
my marriage by not being so focused on the things that are going wrong but being more encouraging, showing acknowledgment, and creating more opportunities for intimacy.

Being consistent is very important in all relationships if we can push ourselves more and show that we care more I believe we'll all be consistently happy. :-)

Giving back

For the last few years I have noticed that my oldest son has caught this "I want" aka the "give me" or "can I have" disease, and I was wrecking my brain trying to figure out how I can make him more appreciative of what he has.  I tell him all the time you have so much going for you, and there are kids in this world that don't have half as much as you have.  They don't get to go on vacations every year like you do.  They haven't been out of this state let alone out of the country like you have!  Stop I want, I wanting and can I have blah, blah, blah, but he still continues to do it.  I teach our boys that life isn't easy.  That they must work hard for what they want, believe in themselves and never give up.  We're also trying to teach them the importance of giving and not just taking, appreciating what you have because what you have can always be taken away, and there are people who don't have everything we have. So starting last year I joined him in the Honeycomb Project where he can sign up for different volunteer projects around Chicago every month, but the problem with those projects is they fill up really fast, and some months we're left without a project.

So one day, taking my morning walk on the lake I came across some tents that some homeless people set up, and ding, ding, ding!  A thought popped into my head; we should feed the homeless, make sandwiches or something and pass them out to these homeless people!

This past Monday, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr day my family and I did just that.  In spite of it being -7 degrees below zero, it was a perfect morning to do it, because it was the only morning we would all be together.  It felt so rewarding, and it was such a proud moment seeing how excited my son was to give back.  Check out the pictures below, and I urge you to give back, and teach your kids how to give back.  If you would like to help in any way by donating food, or creating your own opportunity to give let us know.

Kids these days....

Venting Again…

I was Just reading through some articles on the internet and I came across a Wikipedia question, Why are kids not the way they used to be? The answer was the following.

Yes, today’s kids are absolutely more bold and have more rights to making decisions. Kids at the present are not so energetic, and loving than the past. Past kids were taken care of by parents that know the value of parents love and a systemized life, but today both Mother and Father go to work so they can’t spend much time with their children, and even holidays. This leads to role in a very dangerous way that is they spend more time watching TV, especially those who are at the age of above 14. Watching bad videos and not eating and sleeping properly. Also, by searching for love any other things and people and doing mischievous things. Finally, scratching all properties from the Parent.

I found this to be very accurate in some ways, but I would like to elaborate on it. First I would like to not stop at kids, and expand this by saying, young people. I do this for 2 reasons, I believe the problem concerns more than just kids, and every time I hear the word “kids,” I think about my freshman English Literature teacher in High School. She couldn’t stand when we would use that word. She would say, “Are you a goat?” Kid is a baby goat.

Anyways, back to the matter at hand. Have you every stepped on to a bus around 2:30pm with a swarm of young people just getting out of school? It can be traumatizing! You always have the quiet ones, sticking to themselves, or the older brother looking out for his younger sister that’s a couple sits away, and that’s cute, and makes you wonder, but then you have that crowd that’s completely disrespectful, hitting each other, cursing, laughing and talking loud, and you’re thinking, “Where are their parents?”, or do “Do they not see me sitting here?” or something of that nature.

What happened to a Mother teaching her daughter not only girly things that every girl needs to find out about herself, but about how to accept a complement, and how to treat a man, and teach her son how a woman likes to be treated? What happened to a Father teaching his son how to a man, not only with sports and masculinity, but with responsibility, and teach his daughter to have confidence within herself?

What happened to the old saying, it takes a village to raise a child? I’m not saying that I want some complete stranger coming up to my child and disciplining him without my knowledge, but what I am saying is that, if a relative, or teacher, or anyone that my son comes in contact with in his daily life, that also knows me sees him acting disrespectfully. I will hope that they will call him out and contact me as well. What happen to the Golden Rule, treat others the way you want to be treated? What happened to the magic words, please, thank you, excuse me or even God bless you when you sneeze? What happened to people teaching younger people, and that younger person accepting those teachings? That younger person doesn’t have to put it to use, half the time it probably went in one ear at out the other, but you still respected it. I myself never liked the, don’t speak unless you’re been spoken to rule, but I respected it. What happened to it? Where do they think they’ll be in the future? How far do they think they’ll go with the lack of respect?

It makes me scared, and even angry that my son is going to be influenced by this complete lack to common sense that young people have today! Yes, the teen pregnancy rate is slowing down, but we still have young Mothers, that have had children and now their children have had children making them young Grandmothers and its recycling and nobody is being taught any common sense or RESPECT! I absolutely do not regret having my son, but it makes me sooooooooooooo tremendously afraid for his future, and makes me understand why some people don’t want children, but I guess as long as I stay this “angry black woman,” and have faith it’ll give me the fuel to continue teaching him right from wrong, cause this will not continue with anyone that comes from me, you can bet on that!

About Me...

(Updated 7/7/18)
I'm Shawntelligent, creative, mysterious, amorous, and crazy. I am a woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter, sadly an employee, and more. I should be happy I have a job, right! I’m envious of stay at home moms.  (I am now a stay at home mom and have been for the last 8 years.  I have also decided to accomplish my dream of becoming a therapist.  So I am now a graduate student.  See the I'm a Student blog post for more details about that.)   My husband and I have been married for going on 12 years and we have 2 beautiful, smart, and active sons. I love fashion; I have a B.A in Fine Arts, Fashion Design, but for the time being I am retired at sewing and designing, until I finish school, but I will be making a come back.  I love writing and I wanted to start a blog because I've been inspired by so many of the podcast I subscribe to (See my blog list) and listen to on a daily basis, but more so because of a book I read called the Milk Memos (See my Book reviews on the sidebar). Since I'm striving to be a stay at home mom, and a full-time supportive wife (I say full-time because I feel that I'm only part-time because I'm so EXHAUSTED.  (I still feel this way to a certain degree.  However, I now know the importance of taking care of myself.  It is still a process, but my happiness and self esteem takes priority over everything.  It is what my family needs).   My life has been a little stressed. So I have come to the realization that I need more me time, because of this new found epiphany I enrolled myself into belly dancing which I LOVE, but because of life, belly dancing is on pause for now.(I soooo miss belly dancing).  However, I still need MORE me time! What else can I do? How can I express myself and connect with others?

After a little thinking I decided, I know there has to be other women out there that feel the same way I do, and I believe I have useful and entertaining information to share with them and the entire world. I make gorgeous jewelry, dresses, I'm a student, my husband gets on my nerves and is great at the same time, and so does my kids!  I know other people would love to hear about!

Here at the Enchanté Collections blog (previously called I'll Do Me AKA The Isis Collections blog)... you will find not only my day to day life situations, thoughts and advice, but also book reviews, poetry, art, current events, entertainment events, venues, and whatever inspires me!

Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts and opinions about the blog, but please understand that these are my thoughts, inspirations, and views. You in no way have to agree with them, but because you chose to view my blog I expect you to respect and take note of my voice.
